Who or what did you want to be when you grew up?
Beyonce, or a member of Destiny's Child!
What is your professional background?
Dishwasher / Retail / Public Relations - now a Happiness Concierge! I used to think PR was ER and realised, after suffering three burnouts in my 20's that it really could be life ending if I didn't make a change.
When do you feel the most creative or inspired?
At an airport. There's something about going interstate/overseas/coming back to NZ to feel like anything is possible. I often meet clients on planes as we end up chatting.
When are you happiest?
Introverting after a presentation.
What’s the best stress relief advice you’ve ever been given?
Outline the worst case scenario and ask yourself, on a scale from 1-10, how likely is that to happen? Then ask yourself - what would you do if that happened? Would anyone die?
What is your most treasured possession?
At the moment it is my carry on suitcase, as I'm living out of it at the moment travelling for work all the time!
What is the most important thing life has taught you thus far?
No job or amount of money is worth missing out on your friends, family, or health.
What is your number one business tip for surviving (and thriving) in your industry?
"Yes, and" - I learned it in theatresports at school and saying 'yes, and...' has build my business from a blog into a global training organisation. If I don't know how to do something, I'll find someone who's done it before and ask them how to do it. And saying no more than you say yes as a general rule.
What is your big project or goal for 2018?
At the moment I'm onboarding my new trainers across Australia, so 2018 will be about setting them up for success and rolling out new programmes for Happiness Concierge.
Who or what is inspiring you at the moment?
Cardi B's Instagram is dang hilarious; and Rihanna's foray into entrepreneurship with Fenty Beauty. I think her work ethic is unreal and super inspiring.
What do you continually ask yourself?
Enjoy the ride. You wished for this.
Who do you collaborate with best?
My clients! They all come to me because they want something different, fun and quirky, meaning they're all of those things, meaning there's never a dull moment!
Who has challenged you to be better than you once were?
Every person who wants me to succeed (people audit), every student that has come through Happiness Concierge training, every feedback form, every client, every interaction with people who have different experiences than I do, my trainers, and every student who tells me why they don't want to be there, because it continually forces me to turn up every day and be better for them.
How does courage manifest in your work?
Presenting on a stage to hundreds of people has never scared me. Being open and honest about the areas I found tough has, though - how to really listen to others, giving feedback, asserting boundaries, how to run a business, how to maintain relationships. That stuff is hard AF.
When has mentorship played a role in your life?
Every day. I study people I admire and ask myself - what do they do that makes them successful, how do they treat others and what do they do when things go wrong? What I've learned through creating this business is it's not about being the smartest, the brightest, the savviest, it’s just about keeping going. When my Advisors challenge me, I can feel my brain growing. I want more of this feeling so I'm going to keep going.
