What did you want to be when you grew up?
A popstar! Who was an architect too.
What is your professional background?
I have fallen into everything I have done, from motherhood to business owner. School didn’t suit me… so I am a learn-the-hard-way child who is like the wind.
When do you feel most creative or inspired?
When it’s quiet and all I can hear is nature.
When are you happiest?
When I see a rainbow, a symbol that everything will be alright.
What’s the best stress relief advice you’ve ever been given?
Get out of your own head, help someone else, and exercise.
What is your most treasured possession?
MY MIND.
What is the most important thing life has taught you thus far?
To stop making scenarios up in your head that haven’t happened yet. Just don’t. Stop it!
What is your number one business tip for surviving (and thriving) in your industry?
EMPOWER YOUR PEOPLE.
What is your big project or goal for 2018?
Reinvention of the self. Leave giant corporations for the niche. Basically I am about to set the world on fire (well, the hairdressing world). I am also going on a massive sabbatical trip to Iceland and Italy - random eh! Watch this space…
Who or what is inspiring you atm…?
The young girls who are starting businesses that give back… I am looking at you Indigo & Iris, and NOPE SISTERS. This is the future. We must collaborate to be heard in the sisterhood! We have to help each other be great okay!
What do you continually ask yourself?
Am I giving my money to the right person? Think about it…
Who do you collaborate with best?
I don’t work well with types that control you.
Who has challenged you to be better than you once were?
My son Nathaniel, he is 20 today [at time of writing].
How does courage manifest in your work?
My heart and soul goes into every haircut that walks out the door… it takes courage to put artistic work out to the land of the internet (or the street)... make new things out of what exists already and feel confident. Basically, underneath it all, I have to work really hard at believing in ME!
When has mentorship played a role in your life?
To all the strong women in the world walking to the beat of their own drum… I salute you because you mentor me to help me mentor my people. Mentorship happens every day.
